World Earth Day

World Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22nd since 1970. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in to educate the public about the state of the planet and the need for conservation efforts. This event has since grown into a global event that is celebrated in over 193 countries.

This year, World Earth Day will be commemorated under the theme “Invest in our Planet” which aims to highlight the importance of taking action to repair the damage that has been done to the planet.

The theme emphasizes the need to invest in sustainable practices and technologies to repair the damage that has been done to the planet and protect it for future generations. It also highlights the importance of taking collective action to address the ongoing global climate crisis and other environmental challenges we face.

As an Ecuadorian DMC, we have taken steps to make a difference in promoting sustainable tourism practices and protecting the environment. We have implemented various initiatives to minimize the environmental impact of our operations, such as promoting responsible tourism practices, using eco-friendly transportation options, and supporting local conservation efforts.

For example, we offer a range of eco-tours that allow travelers to experience Ecuador’s natural beauty while minimizing their impact on the environment. These tours include visits to national parks, nature reserves, and eco-lodges that are committed to sustainable tourism practices. Additionally, they work closely with local communities to promote sustainable development and support conservation efforts.

In addition to conscientious practices mentioned before, our sister brand “Oniric Cruises” announced in 2022, is a brand of sustainable cruises in the Galapagos islands. We made a transition towards becoming an eco-friendly cruise line, based on the team’s deepening awareness of the potential effects of climate change in the Galapagos and the need to balance tourism’s financial benefits with the protection of the environment.

To make the fleet as eco-friendly as possible, Oniric Cruises has invested in several upgrades, such as installing photovoltaic solar panels on board, smart electrical systems to minimize energy waste, water desalination plants for onboard consumption, and waste management protocols. Additionally, the company uses biodegradable, non-toxic materials at dry docks, selected providers with verifiable environmental best practices, purchases carbon credits to offset the carbon footprint of cruises, and uses only reusable water bottles onboard.

World Earth Day is an important event that reminds us of the need to take action to protect our planet. As an Ecuadorian DMC, we have made significant efforts to promote sustainable tourism practices and protect the environment. By supporting responsible tourism and conservation efforts, we can all make a difference in preserving our planet for future generations.
