Today, we would like to talk about the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia (IDAHOTB), which is celebrated every year on May 17th.

The history of IDAHOTB dates back to 1990, when the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses. However, it wasn’t until May 17, 2005, that the first International Day Against Homophobia was observed. Since then, the day has been expanded to include transphobia and biphobia, and it is now recognized in more than 130 countries around the world.

The purpose of IDAHOTB is to raise awareness about the discrimination and violence faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and to promote the rights and freedoms of these individuals. The day is also a reminder of the importance of education and dialogue to combat discrimination and prejudice.

At Andean Travel Company, we strongly believe in equality and inclusivity for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We strive to create a safe and welcoming environment for all of our travellers, and we are committed to promoting LGBTQ+ rights both within our company and in the communities we visit.

We offer a variety of LGBTQ+-friendly tours throughout Ecuador, including visits to the vibrant LGBTQ+ scene in Quito, the historic city of Cuenca, and the stunning Galapagos Islands. Our tours are designed to showcase the beauty and diversity of Ecuador while also promoting awareness and understanding of LGBTQ+ issues.

We hope that this International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia serves as a reminder of the importance of equality, respect, and acceptance for all individuals. Let’s work together to create a world where everyone can live freely and without fear of discrimination.
